Finally a truly portable Sonos Bluetooth speaker. Much lighter and smaller than the Move, see below, the new Roam is IP67 rated, meaning complete water and dust resistance and its built-in battery has the stamina for up to 10 hours of playback. The Sonos Roam comes with a USB-C charging cable and is compatible with standard Qi wireless chargers. You can use the Sonos app and get all of the normal features, or play music over AirPlay or Bluetooth. It's a party-starting sound, too, with punch and bass, and plenty of excitement. You might get a clearer, more detailed sound from the very best Bluetooth speakers at this price, but thanks to everything Sonos offers, the Roam remains a good option.
If you prefer a soundbase to a soundbar, then the Playbase is your only option where Sonos is concerned. Luckily, it's a pretty good. It creates a big, broad soundstage and a solid, natural bass. It's also aesthetically stylish and reassuringly well put together. The treble can be a bit edgy when it gets really loud but it's still a fine buy, particularly if you spot a discount for this now discontinued product.
Like the majority of Sonos's wireless speakers, the Play:3 is another cracking performer and if you can find one, then you should get a good price. Again, maybe a refurbished or, as Amazon calls it, renewed (opens in new tab) model. No touch-sensitive controls or voice assistants, but all the control and streaming functionality of the Sonos family is there. Naturally you get a lift in performance over the Play:1 too.
The Sonos Boost is a network extender which replaced the old Sonos Bridge. Most people won't need it but you'll know if you do. Should your speakers struggle to connect because of thick walls or a sea of other wi-fi devices all fighting for the airwaves in your home, then the Boost can create a dedicated wireless system for your Sonos products. Not the most recent release from the Sonos stables, so plenty of deals to be had.
The Sub Mini is designed to mix and match with any of Sonos's full range speakers. Though because of its diminutive size, it's recommended to partner with some of its smaller, more affordable models such as the Beam Gen 2, Ray, One, One SL or Symfonisk speakers in small to medium-sized rooms.
Much like the Connect, the Connect:Amp is all about bringing Sonos to traditional two-channel systems. You've probably guessed the difference; this one has its own amplifier, so you can connect it direct to a pair of speakers. The Connect:Amp has now been superseded by the Amp above, so likely won't be available for long. On the plus side, there are now some useful discounts around.
Amazon (opens in new tab)Amazon has some Sonos speakers and devices in stock, but many of them are used. Brand-new Sonos speakers are currently selling above their RRP, so you're better off looking elsewhere at the moment.
Best Buy (opens in new tab)Best Buy is currently selling a wide range of Sonos speakers and soundbars, some of which come with six free months of Apple Music (opens in new tab) thrown in. There are also refurbished models available to buy with big discounts. If you're going to buy a Sonos speaker today, this is the retailer to go with.
Walmart (opens in new tab)Like Best Buy, Walmart is offering discounts on refurbished Sonos speakers, as well as deals on bundles. Otherwise, prices are at their usual RRP.
Sevenoaks (opens in new tab)Sevenoaks is your best bet if you're looking for Sonos deals. Right now you can save around 20 on the brand's popular soundbars and speakers.
If you're after the best speaker around, check out the Sonos One. Not only is it at the top of our best wireless speakers guide, but it's also the best smart speaker around. The soundstage it produces is splendid, and with Google and Amazon Alexa assistant support you'll be able to listen to your favorite tracks just by asking the Sonos One to play them.
However, if you value portability you'll want to find the best Sonos Move and Sonos Roam deals. Not only are these Bluetooth speakers great for setting up on-the-go party tunes, but the excellent sound quality and full support of the Sonos app make them brilliant speakers to have in your home too.
If you're after something a little cheaper and smaller, the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is a great choice, coming with virtual Dolby Atmos and HDMI eARC compatibility. Its compact size makes it ideal for smaller spaces, and you can easily hook it up to a Sonos Sub or a pair of Sonos One SL rear speakers to boost the sound. It's worth keeping an eye out for deals on the original Sonos Beam, too. Although it's been discontinued, you may find some retailers trying to shift leftover stock or refurbished models.
The biggest difference is that the Era 100 has built-in Bluetooth and a line-in connection (via USB-C), meaning it supports ways of playing audio. It's a smart speaker that can be integrated with Alexa (but not Google Assistant). It can be stereo paired with another Era 100. You can also designate two as rear-channel speakers in a home theater system.
The Sub Mini is essentially a smaller and more affordable version of the current Sub. It weighs 14 pounds, compared to the Sub's 36 pounds, but it works it much the same way: with dual force-cancelling woofers. There are a few other differences with the Sub Mini. It has a cylindrical shape and needs to be stood vertically (you can't rest it on its side like the Sub). It has a sealed rather than ported design. And you can only pair one Sub Mini with a soundbar, whereas you can use two Subs with the Arc. Sonos recommends pairing the Sub Mini with its Ray or Beam (Gen 2) soundbars, or with a pair of Ones.
Because Sonos speakers are essentially computers, they don't stay supported forever. Their sound-making abilities may remain intact, but their connectivity features get left behind. It's the tradeoff for the simplicity Sonos provides. Old-school vintage speakers may last for a generation, but they're also way more difficult to stream Spotify to.
Discontinued products may still be for sale by Sonos, as refurbished models. Most importantly, they are supported by Sonos' latest "S2" app which means that although they are no longer top-of-the-line, they will place nicely in a Sonos system that contains more current speakers. Buying a discontinued Sonos product can be a good get if you're looking for a deal and understand it may become unsupported sooner than the newer products.
A wireless multiroom speaker system is the easiest way to listen to music, podcasts, and other audio entertainment in more than one room at a time, and Sonos is the best option. It supports the widest variety of streaming services, the speakers sound great, and its apps are practically foolproof. The competition is catching up, but Sonos is still the most complete and reliable package overall.

In the past he has written for Residential Systems, Home Theater Review, Electronic House, Big Picture Big Sound, Digital TV & Sound, Home Smart Home, and Home Theater magazine, just to name a few.
The Sonos system is the best multiroom wireless speaker system because it supports the most services and has a wide selection of great-sounding speakers, comprehensive search features, and a well-organized app that runs on almost all major mobile platforms. Sonos keeps its platform current by updating its speakers, adding more services, and introducing new features such as Trueplay room-correction technology. The Sonos user experience is the best of any of the multiroom wireless speaker systems currently available.
Sonos offers speakers that start at the budget end with the small Sonos One and Sonos One SL (which lacks voice control) and extend to the Arc, Beam, and Ray soundbars for use with a TV. You can use a single speaker, combine two into a stereo pair, or even build a 5.1-channel home theater system using a soundbar along with two other speakers for surrounds and the matching Sub. You even have the ability to add dual Subs to home theater setups.
Because some people prefer to use native streaming service apps, such as those for Spotify and Apple Music, Sonos is starting to make its speakers compatible with those. Using the Spotify app or Apple Music, you can send music directly to a Sonos speaker, just as you would with a Spotify Connect speaker or the Apple HomePod, respectively. Sonos has said that this compatibility will be available for more services in the future but has not provided a timeline or named specific services.
When Amazon added multiroom music streaming to the Echo lineup in 2017, it was in a severely limited capacity. Back then, if any of your Echo devices was connected to a Bluetooth speaker, that connection would drop when you initiated multiroom playback. And none of the Echo speakers available at the time sounded good enough on their own to justify their use as your main music system. But in the years since, the audio fidelity of Echo speakers has improved, and the multiroom functionality has gotten steadily better. Bluetooth connectivity is now supported, so if you have an Echo Dot paired with, say, a Monoprice Soundstage3 in your home office, that duo can sync up with the rest of your Echo devices just fine.
Yamaha MusicCast is currently only in Yamaha devices, including soundbars, speakers, and receivers. It supports Pandora and Spotify but not Amazon, Apple Music, or Google Play. It supports AirPlay and Bluetooth on all its devices, but not enough services directly. 041b061a72
